Victorian Poisoner

The story of Giulia Tofana inspired me for this digital painting but I added a Victorian Twist. My painting resides in the 1800s, the Victorian Era.

Giulia Tofana is said to have been a professional poisoner in the 17th century.
She set up a poisoning ring in Rome that began to sell this poison to women who wanted to escape abusive or inconvenient spouses.
Made of a mixture of lead, arsenic, and belladonna, Aqua Tofana contained some of the same ingredients as normal cosmetics at the time, which helped it to blend in on a woman's nightstand or vanity.
After brutal torture, Giulia Tofana confessed to killing as many as 600 men with the use and sale of her poison between the years of 1633 and 1651 alone, making her the mastermind behind one of the most notorious murder plots in history.
